Founded by Dr. Steven Lyng in 2023, The Go Fourth Learn Project is focused on redefining the landscape of education through the development of leaders as systems thinkers and a commitment to creating relevant and engaging learning environments for today's students.
The Go Fourth Learn Project examines the pressing need for transformational change in secondary education to meet the demands of an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. Drawing on the principles of Systems Thinking, the paper outlines the key challenges facing schools today while proposing leadership strategies to drive meaningful reform. By addressing underlying assumptions, and fostering a culture of autonomy and purpose, educational leaders can create more engaging, relevant, and effective learning environments for 21st-century students.
In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, school leaders must be more than administrators—they must be visionaries, change agents, and architects of learning innovation. The Go Fourth Learn Leadership Development Framework is designed to equip educational leaders with skills and capacity to transform their schools into dynamic learning environments that prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow.
At a pivotal moment in education, there is a pressing need to reimagine how we prepare students for an increasingly complex future. We must move beyond traditional school structures toward a more holistic and inclusive approach to learning. With effective implementation, high school programs built around these principles will make fundamental changes that enhance their relevance and effectiveness in serving modern students.
At the heart of the Go Fourth Learn Project is a vision to foster educational environments where curiosity, creativity, and collaboration thrive. Effective educational leadership is pivotal to shaping the future. The work of the Go Fourth Learn Project is centered on nurturing knowledgeable, passionate, and forward-thinking leaders.
Understanding that the best solutions and innovations are derived as part of the culture building that takes place in a learning organization, GFL works with school leaders to develop confidence in the techniques and skills that enable the application of Systems Thinking as the foundation for building an innovative culture and program in today's school environments.
The Go Fourth Learn Project Philosophy revolves around the concept of the "Lead Learner" as a leadership style that embraces continuous learning and growth. By equipping educators with the tools and strategies to lead with purpose, this project aims to create learning environments that are dynamic, engaging, and supportive. An important focus of the work is on building a community where educators are inspired to innovate and students are encouraged to excel.
An action orientation that drives our work forward with a sense of urgency. The time to reframe teaching and learning in our high schools is right now.
Acknowledgment that we are currently living in the midst of what has been called The Fourth Industrial Revolution - a time of rapid change driven by technological advances impacting all facets of our society.
The desire to grow and learn is an innate quality that we are all born with. Educators everywhere share the desire and responsibility to foster this quality in others as the centerpiece of their day to day work.
There is no set formula for success in today's world.
